Love at First Strike | Matt & Alexis
While there might not be crying in baseball…there sure is LOVE at LTS Softball leagues for Matt & Alexis 🙂
It was the “Summer of Love” for these two sports fanatics while on the softball field in 2015. Matt & Alexis have played sports for most of their lives so they naturally jumped at an opportunity to play Sports with LTS in the league hosted for a local Chicago organization, the Jewish United Fund. All JUF players in this league register as individuals. While some do request for friends to join their team, most are randomly assigned a with the goal of meeting new people. It was fate that Matt & Alexis ended up on the same Softball Team and the rest is history.
One day, Matt saw an opportunity to strike up an email conversation with Alexis while taking attendance for that week’s game. That conversation about families both from Long Island, NY led to more talks at game nights. After the season ended, he offered to cook for Alexis’, and went with his go to choice…burgers. This happened to be Alexis’ favorite food so the “brownie points” kept growing in Matt’s favor.
Matt conspired with Alexis’ old roommate to plan a city-wide scavenger hunt around Chicago that went to the most iconic places from their relationship. It started at Matt and Alexis’ apartment and then to Sushi-O-Sushi, the United Center, Alexis’ old apartment, and finally, back to where it began at the Stanton Park Softball Field.
When Lex arrived, she began to walk towards the field where flowers were placed, music was playing and a 16inch Softball that read, “Lex, will you marry me?” waiting on the pitchers mound. Matt then walked out from behind the dugout, got down on one knee and proposed. YES!!! Several friends ran out from the shadows surrounding the field to embrace the newly engaged couple. Matt & Alexis celebrated into the night with those friends, pizza and a Cubs Playoff Game…does it get much better than that?!
LTS Match Made in SPORTS
When asking if it was love at first strike, Matt said, “Yes, BUT it was love at first strikeout. She tried so hard and looked really pretty missing the ball!”. Alexis agrees that when, “Well, during our Kickball league the following season with JUF, Matt joined the a team who had forfeited against us for a “friendly” game. During the game, Matt pegged me with the kickball (as an opponent on the opposite team) as I ran to first base. Who does that?! I found it amazing and I love that he treated me like I was good competition.”
Matt & Alexis have been actively participating in LTS Sports Leagues ever since. They both agree that the friendly competition and true sense of community involvement is what makes LTS leagues unlike any other. In fact, meeting the person they are going to spend the rest of their lives with makes it that much more special.
We are honored to know you and wish the happy couple a lifetime of great “softball moments” together! Cheers Matt & Alexis!
